The Cane Crest Side Chair has a back you notice before you sit down: a wide panel of woven cane set into a top rail with a scalloped, notched upper edge, held between two straight back posts. Below it, a padded seat in coral leather-look upholstery adds a warm hit of color against dark wood.
The frame is solid hardwood in a walnut stain, with square legs and low side and rear stretchers that brace the chair against the rocking it gets on a busy floor. The open area under the cane keeps the chair visually light, so a row of them along a booth doesn't feel crowded.
Construction. Solid wood frame with glued and screwed corner blocks, machine-woven cane pressed into a routed groove and splined, and a seat on a plywood board fixed from below so it can be re-covered without touching the frame.
Where it works. Gastropub dining rooms, brewery restaurants and cider bars that want a mid-century, warm look rather than industrial steel. It sits at a standard 30 in (76 cm) dining table.
Stain, cane tone and seat color are made to order; a black-stained frame with tan seat is a popular quieter option.
